2 AGREEMENT (singular) an agreement that ends a war: the Peace of Nijmegen | a negotiated peace
3 NO NOISE (U) a peaceful situation with no unpleasant noise: A single gunshot shattered the peace of the May afternoon. | in peace (=without being interrupted): I wish you'd leave me in peace - I've got work to do. | peace and quiet: We're going to the countryside for some peace and quiet.
4 CALMNESS (U) a feeling of calmness and lack of worry and problems: the search for inner peace | peace of mind (=to stop you from worrying): Ann had to check the baby every few minutes for her own peace of mind. | at peace with yourself (=calm and happy): Lynn never seems to be at peace with herself.
5 (U) a situation in which there is no quarrelling between people who live or work together: peace and stability in industrial relations | keep the peace (=stop people from quarrelling, fighting, or causing trouble)
6 disturb the peace law to behave in a noisy or violent way: Macklin was charged with disturbing the peace.

10 rest in peace a prayer for someone who has died, said during a funeral service or written on a gravestone
